Full Inspection
2023-04-29
Summary
On a day I shouldn't have been in the hives, I was, and I paid for it in stings. Two. Both on the right leg.
Weather
Cold, Misty, Rainy
Encounter Log
- The goal was a full inspection, for whatever that meant [I'm filling these out with the lens of someone who knows a bit better a few months later.]
Hives
Beeyonce (Furthest hive from house)
- Syrup was empty.
- There were a lot of capped queen cells amongst the frames, but not in position. I squashed them [bad idea, says future Pete]
- I put a second deep on, populated with frames/foundation from betterbee/pierceco, instead of galena ones
- I flipped the top cover over so that the exit would let bees that got caught in the feeder-shim exit.
- stung, bottom right ankle. Maybe incursion from not sealing jeans to shoes.
Beeatrice (Closest to the house)
- half of a jar of syrup remains, swapped 3 days prior. They're slowing down their eating. Why?
- lots of resources, some capped brood left, no evidence of fresh eggs or larvae
- hive appears queenless so I'm ordering a replacement queen from Frank.
- stung, upper right leg, above kneecap. Likely incursion from not sealing jeans to shoes.
